Michelle Griffith Robinson’s 4 Daily Non-Negotiables to Start the Day Positively

My name is Michelle Griffith Robinson, and I am a former Olympic athlete, who represented Great Britain for almost 2 decades in the Triple Jump. I retired from elite sport in 2006 and pursued a career as a Personal Trainer, Mentor, Life Coach, writer and expert trainer for Women’s Health Magazine. I am also a busy mother of three children and a proud ambassador to several charities and recently appointed as a Trustee for Mental Health UK. My health and wellbeing are of paramount importance to me and I am all about empowering people to unlock their true potential.

I love a good morning routine. From being an Olympic athlete to now, I can honestly say that I love my regimented mornings. My morning routine gives me clarity and more intention in my professional and personal life. Routines do not have to be complicated and all-encompassing rather they are an easy framework to follow and reduce the natural chaos that can occur in everyday life.

So, what does my morning routine look like? Here are my morning non-negotiables.

1. Show gratitude

As soon as I open my eyes, I show gratitude for another day of opportunities. This is my first non-negotiable of the day and is a habit that has been instilled in me from when I was a child; I can still hear my mother saying in her Jamaican accent ‘remember to give thanks’. This helps to set a positive tone for the day before I do anything else.

2. Stop, pause and reflect

I follow this with a quick moment of STOP, PAUSE and REFLECT. This is something that I would encourage everyone to do. It is a gamechanger, especially in midlife when life can be tricky at times! Taking this moment allows me to reflect on the abundance in my life and help me to put things into perspective. Often, we focus so much on what we don’t have and negate what we do have in our lives.

3. Morning stretch

Then, I stretch and do breathwork. This is a ‘quick yoga’ sequence that I have implemented since suffering with tightness in my lower back and hamstrings. It’s not an arduous routine but something that encourages mobility - give it a try and let me know how you feel!

4. I take my Symprove shot

I head downstairs and take my shot of Symprove. Being peri-menopausal, this is a non-negotiable to prioritise supporting my gut as it plays a significant role in my overall wellbeing.

However, as a life coach, I know it can be a struggle to formulate a morning routine.

So here are five suggestions that may help you to perfect yours:

  1. Take some time to understand the benefits of routine.
  2. Perform the routine daily, experimenting with what works for you.
  3. Be adaptable and make the routine fit your lifestyle.
  4. Hold yourself accountable.
  5. Keep it simple!

Now, of course, we can’t pretend that life is always perfect, but we can take charge of the small decisions we make. That can include prioritising our wellbeing with Symprove but ultimately making good choices that allow us to thrive and live a longer, healthier life.
